Private Pilots Licence
Welcome to Thomas Aviation. There are a variety of reasons why people elect to commence flying training. It may be to start a new career or to satisfy personal aspirations such as fun, adventure or a new challenge. Whatever the reason, at Thomas Aviation we will help you achieve your goals.
Before you commence your training you may wish to undertake a TRIAL INTRODUCTORY FLIGHT (TIF). This flight will give you an insight into what it is really like to be at the controls of an aircraft. You will get to fly the aircraft and gain an insight into what it is like to fly.
There are no formal pre-requisites with regards to educational requirements. At various stages during your training you will have to pass written and multiple choice examinations in subjects connected with your flying. Background knowledge in basic maths and physics is helpful but not essential; your instructor will be able to guide you through your theory.
The minimum age at which a Student Pilot Licence (SPL) can be issued is 16 years, however if you are younger than 16 years you can still commence flying training but you can’t be sent solo. The minimum age at which a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) can be issued is 17 years and for a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) it is 18 years.
Student Pilot Licence:
Prior to making your first solo flight you will be issued a Student Pilot Licence. During training for the Student Pilot Licence you will complete at least 20 hours of flight training, which is the minimum laid down by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). Upon successful completion of a General Flying Progress Test (GFPT) with Thomas Aviation Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) you will then be able to carry passengers within a designated area. The minimum age for the issue of a Student Pilot Licence is 16 years.
Private Pilot Licence:
The minimum hours as laid down by CASA for the issue of a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) is 40 hours. Your Private Pilot Licence will enable you to fly cross-country carrying non-paying passengers; however you are able to share the cost of the flight equally between yourself and your passengers. After obtaining your Private Pilot Licence you will be able to go to such places as the blue mountains, Or you can plan your own adventure anywhere within Australia and go wherever your imagination takes you.
