Project Description

Private Pilot Licence (PPL)

The Private Pilot Licence (PPL) allows you to fly as pilot in command of a single engine aircraft anywhere in Australia. It is a milestone for any pilot and your first trip with your friends and family after completing this course will be something to look forward to!

The Thomas Aviation PPL Syllabus follows on from our RPL course and consists of 7 navigational flights. One of the most memorable will be a trip to Bankstown in Sydney where you will detour into Sydney Harbour and conduct orbits in front of the Harbour Bridge!

Requirements for a PPL

  • Minimum of 40 hours flight time including 10 hours solo.
  • Minimum of 2 hours Basic Instrument Flight (BIF) time.
  • A valid Class 2 or Basic Class 2 Medical.
  • 17 years old for the issue of a PPL.
  • Pass a CASA PPL written Flight Exam.

Course Duration

We tailor our courses to each student – Full-time or Part-time is available.

If flying part time, we recommend flying at least 2-3 times a month to ensure you continue progressing through the syllabus without falling too far behind. We are open 7 days a week and are very flexible with times.

If 7am or 5pm works for you, then it works for us too.

Pricing

As each student learns at a different pace it is difficult to put a number on the total cost of a licence.

Minimum cost of an PPL
Assumes completion of the RPL Syllabus
20 Hours @ $295/hr = $5900
Landing Fees = $100
Flight Test (Flight time + CASA Examiner Test fee) = Approx $1500
Written flight exam = $185
______________________________________________
PPL Navigation Syllabus = $7685
+ Minimum RPL Syllabus of $9125
$16810

For budgeting purposes, we recommend allowing for approx $18000-20000 which will include any additional lessons and unforeseen costs as some students take a little longer than the minimum amount of hours to be competent. Most students will achieve their PPL in 45-60 hours flight time, not the minimum of 40 hours, but it can be done by some gifted students.

Please note: Fees are billed on completion of your flight. You will not have to pay anything up front.

Trial Introductory Flight

A Trial Introductory Flight (TIF) is a great way to experience flying an aircraft for the first time with an instructor. It will be structured like a flight lesson with a pre and post flight briefing and you will have the chance to operate the flight controls yourself under the guidance of a flight instructor.
